Saudi Campaign to Restore Relationship with Yemen
Saudi Arabia launched a massive media campaign in an attempt to patch up its broken relationship with the Yemeni people.
This coincides with its continuation on negotiations with Sana’a in order to reach an agreement that ends eight years of its war and blockade with the participation of 17 countries.
Senior Saudi experts and foreign policy theorists launched a campaign on social media under hashtag “Saudi Arabia and Yemen – his brother and his destiny.”
The campaign targets Yemenis in the areas controlled by Sana’a, who have been suffering during the past years from the scourge of war and siege.
The campaign varied between tweets showing the depth of the relationship between the two peoples and an attempt to show Saudi Arabia as a major supporter of Yemen, in addition to statements by Mohammed bin Salman that include promises to stand with Yemen until the recovery at all levels.
The campaign, which is the first of its kind since the start of the Saudi-led war in March of 2015, comes days after official directives to stop the media escalation against Anssarallah movement.
It coincided with reports that negotiations led by the Sultanate of Oman between Sana’a and Riyadh were nearing their end. It indicates that the campaign is part of a new series aimed at restoring the relationship with the Yemeni people in preparation for the expected agreement.
