Al-Zubaidi Arranges Military Coup Against Al-Alimi
Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, head of the Transitional Council, intensified his movements on Friday in the ranks of the military bodies affiliated with the Presidential Council, in the framework of arrangements for a coup against Alimi.
Al-Zubaidi met, during the past hours, with the head of the military committee tasked by the presidency with structuring the warring factions in southern and eastern Yemen. Al-Zubaidi called on the head of the committee, Haitham Qassem Taher, the former defense minister in the southern state, to quickly form its committees, as he demanded, according to the council’s media, focusing on removing what it described as “al-Qaeda and ISIS factions” from Abyan, Shabwah, Hadhramaut and Al-Mahrah, in reference to the factions of his opponents in Islah party stationed in those areas.
The meeting came in light of news that Al-Alimi rejected the request of Al-Zubaidi and others in the council to dismiss the Minister of Defense in the government of Maeen, Muhammad Al-Maqdashi.
Al-Zubaidi’s focus on the military committee indicates that he is arranging the last paper to empty the defense of its content and what enables the Council to acquire it, in light of its diminishing chances of changing the minister.
