Houhtis Progress Cancels US Envoy’s Visit to Marib

The United States canceled, a visit by its envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, to Marib city, the last stronghold of the pro-coalition factions in northern Yemen.

Exclusive-Alkhabar Alyemeni:

Tribal sources in Marib reported that US envoy had informed Hadi Governor Sultan al-Arada at the end of last week on his intention to visit the city; however, he retreated during the past hours and informed him that the meeting would be arranged via a televised circuit.

The cancellation of Lenderking’s visit, during which he was trying to raise the morale of fighters loyal to his country, came following the warnings of US Department of Defense to Linderking about the repercussions of the visit, according to a report published by Washington Center for Near Eastern Studies, it is one of the most important research centers that chart US policy in the Gulf.

The report indicated that the situation in Marib has become very difficult in light of what it described as rapid developments, in reference to the recent progress of “Houthis” and described the visit as “risky”.

Earlier on Friday in a press statement Lenderking had criticized the advance of Sana’a forces in Marib, days after his appointment, he vowed to prevent “Houthis” from controlling the city, Pointing out that it is contrary to the desire of the international community.

These developments come at a time when the forces of Sana’a have made more progress on the course of the battle in the city, with its control over the districts of Abdiya and Jubah as the last outlet for the factions loyal to the coalition, which use civilians as human shields.
