New Batch of US Marines Arrive to Al-Mahrah


Al-Mahrah received on Sunday, a new batch of US Marines, in a move indicating that United States is planning to a long-term presence in this province.

Local sources and activists reported that a military plane landed at Al-Ghaydah airport early, which is being used by British, Saudi, Emirati and British forces as a military base on the Arabian Sea, noting that the new batch included American trainers.
It is not clear what is the mission of Americans to come for in the province that is far from the scene of confrontations with Sana’a or even the so-called “war on al-Qaeda,” that the organization takes the oil-rich areas in Shabwah, Hadhramaut and Marib, as its strongholds, and has recently strengthened its presence in Abyan and Hadi areas in Al-Baidha.
A few days ago, the Emirati forces took over the security of Al-Ghaydah airport, which hosts a joint operations room to coordinate and manage joint operations in the Arabian Sea.
Besides Al-Ghaydah military base, US forces have a small base in the Empty Quarter, specifically in the border areas between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, which it takes it a base for launching drones used to pursue what it describes as “terrorists”. And provide logistical support to the coalition in its war on Yemen.
The United States has also recently strengthened its military presence in the Arabian Sea by deploying more naval battleships there to reinforce the forces of the Fifth Fleet deployed in the Gulf.
