Health authorities in Sana’a announced, Tuesday, the first confirmed case of Coronavirus in the Yemeni capital. Minister of Public Health and Population inn Sana’a government, Dr. Taha al-Mutawakel announced on that a confirmed case of COVID-19 has been detected in the capital’s for a Somali immigrant.
Dr. Al Mutawakel explained at a press conference held in Sana’a that he received a report to the Ministry of Health about the presence of the case in a hotel in the secretariat of the capital on Sunday, May 3, 2020 and immediately the epidemiological investigation teams moved to the hotel where the injured person died.
“A Somali sample was taken for laboratory testing and the result showed that he was infected with the new CORONAvirus and was a confirmed case of the virus,” he said.
“The patient had chronic diseases of “kidney failure and chronic hepatitis”, and the epidemiological investigation teams kept the body and then carried out sterilization and disinfection procedures for the hotel where he was located and the stone on the contacts and follow them up.”
“The emergence of this situation, in addition to the cases declared in the occupied governorates, is ringing the alarm for Yemeni society,” he said.
The Minister of Health called on citizens to be very careful and abide by the guidelines and precautionary measures and to abide by personal hygiene and attention to washing hands with water and soap, using sterile sterilizers and not touching the eye, nose and mouth, following health guidelines and avoiding crowded areas except for the necessary need with the wearing of muzzles and gloves.
“The alarm that has come from the discovery of a laboratory case of a Somali national may have been mixed with a number of people that requires caution,” he said.
The Minister of Health reiterated the implementation of preventive measures announced by the Ministry of Health, particularly hotels, roof clearance and other measures. He urged citizens not to enter any crowded areas at all.
The minister stressed that all hospitals should take measures to control infection and apply them in hospitals and sterilize and disinfect all those who enter and exit them according to the procedural manual issued by the ministry.
He warned against rumors about this virus as the source of the information is the Ministry of Health concerned with this aspect.
