Ambiguity Surrounds Visit of UN Envoy to Sana’a
The delay in the arrival of the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grodenberg, to the capital, Sana’a, sparked controversy during the past hours.
The office of UN envoy, who announced the end of his visit to Saudi Arabia at the end of last week, had revealed arrangements to visit sana’a.
Media reports said that the envoy was planning to visit Sana’a this week.
It is not yet clear why the office did not specify the date of the visit and whether it was rejected by Sanaa or obstructed by external parties, but the delay of the visit in light of the Saudi movement regionally and internationally to search for a way out indicates, according to activists on social media, the decision of Riyadh, which had previously been an earlier visit was disrupted by postponing the envoy’s visit in the hope of a regional detente.
